Name of Session: "Science & Literacy – The notebook connection" Learning Goals for DVI Fellows:
To develop an understanding of the importance of using Science Notebooks in connection with literacy and science Pennsylvania state standards.Participants will gain an understanding of how notebooks may be used, learn some best practices for incorporating notebooks into their curriculum, and critically reflect on how they might use this tool in their own classrooms. Summary of Activities: 1)Inquire into the essential components of a Science Notebook. 2)Briefly introduce the text (NAME?? ugh, can’t find it). 3)Delve into the helpful website ScienceNotebooks.org. 4)Investigate ideas to connect Science with Literacy, that Fellows could then make on Day 5’s session “FOSS and Inquiry”. 5)Explore Science connections with Biography, Historical Fiction, and other trade books, such as Rachel Carson and others.
